The opportunity

British Gymnastics is looking for a knowledgeable and passionate National Coach – MAG to help lead the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics National Development Programme. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing talented gymnasts across the pathway, supporting coaches and clubs, and contributing to the long term success and legacy of the programme.

Working closely with the Head National Coach – MAG and wider performance team, you will provide technical expertise, practical coaching support, and guidance that helps gymnasts progress within a high performance environment. This role would suit someone with strong coaching credibility, excellent relationship building skills, and a genuine commitment to safe, inclusive and athlete centred practice.

Main areas of responsibility

The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Lead and support the delivery of the Men’s Artistic National Development Programme in line with the performance plan
  • Provide expert coaching input and practical intervention to identified pathway gymnasts and their clubs
  • Build effective working relationships with personal coaches and clubs to support gymnast development and progression
  • Assess gymnast performance, strengths and development needs, making informed recommendations to improve outcomes
  • Support the planning and delivery of national squad activities for Development and Junior men’s programmes
  • Contribute to the transition of gymnasts through the pathway, including development into junior level programmes where appropriate
  • Mentor and support developing coaches through club visits, national activities, clinics and other learning opportunities
  • Work collaboratively with performance, sports science and medicine colleagues to provide a joined up approach to athlete support
  • Provide high quality feedback, reports and performance information following squad activities, competitions and club visits
  • Embed safeguarding, safe sport, inclusion and governance standards in all aspects of the role

Role requirements

We're looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Significant knowledge and understanding of contemporary high performance coaching within Men’s Artistic Gymnastics
  • Strong technical coaching expertise with the ability to assess performance and identify practical development solutions
  • Experience of working with talented or pathway athletes within a performance environment
  • Ability to build strong, credible relationships with gymnasts, coaches, clubs and wider stakeholders
  • Sound understanding of sports science and medicine and how this supports athlete development and performance
  • Excellent planning, organisational and administrative skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce reports and provide clear feedback
  • Good IT skills, including confidence using Microsoft Office and performance analysis or athlete planning tools
  • Up to date knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, welfare responsibilities and appropriate referral pathways
  • Commitment to inclusive practice, professional standards and continuous professional development

Salary: £35,000 per annum

Hours: 37 hours per week

Location: Home based

Contract type: Temporary until March 2029

Additional requirements: An Enhanced DBS with barred list will be required for the post
